Why I have stopped drinking coffee
Now this is going to be interesting. People used to know me as a coffee lover. Well, they still do, quite a few of them still don’t know that I have completely stopped drinking coffee in November 2015. But why? – you might ask.
Initially, it was only an experiment, so I can find out if all what I read on the Internet about coffee is true and if the claim, that coffee is the most abused drug on this planet is true. I liked coffee a lot. Had it every morning, than again in the afternoon. I even went as far as roasting my own coffee – bought a coffee roasting machine and green beans, so I could get the ultimate freshness and quality you can’t just simply buy in the local shop or supermarket.
Then I went for a holiday and due to the location where we stayed, we could not have a coffee as usual every morning. I thus decided to try to survive without the coffee for the whole week. And it was not easy, quite a strong head-aches / migraines started virtually next day and lasted for another 3-4 days. It was not pleasant. My body went through the withdrawal process, a process which I did not expect it to last for so long and be as painful as it was.
Since then I did not have a cup of coffee, so right now I have been without caffeine for over 4 months. Was it worth it? I would say – definitely yes! Only now I know the difference. Only now I know, that coffee made me more tired and did not give me as much energy as I though I had. Yes, there was always the rush, the energy after I had my coffee, but few hours after, there was the crash, which made me more tired and wanting more coffee. These days I can go without coffee the whole day long and not feeling tired at all, even later into the evenings. Caffeine free life rules!
